This game was so good! I usually don't play a lot of games (besides horror and psychological) so I didn't know if I wanted to give this a try. I'm so glad I decided to play! I love the style as well. Def one of my all time favorites. <3
Buenas!! Me encantó tu trabajo realmente!
It was very nice playing and I can see a lot of effort put to this! The climate, story, characters, art and especially music is well done! And main character is a girlboss so this is epic♥
I really liked the design, storyline, sound effects EVERYTHING it was quite unsettling but I'd give it a 10/10. I can't wait to see the project you're working on!(☆U☆)
I loved this! Characters felt real even with limited dialogue, and Kat was enjoyable from beginning to end. The level of horror/fear was decent, but I think it dragged for a bit too long without payoff for the atmosphere that was built up. That said, the art and music were great, and the story in particular is the game's strongest suit. I can't wait for the next part, and I'd certainly be willing to pay for it.
This was a wonderful RPG game to play with fantastic artwork and soundtrack to match the mood. Thank you for some time well spent and good luck with your larger project!
Okay, so i tried the game with a SNES controller and i really hope you add support for it, it may be an old controller but when i could actually set it up, it worked just fine! Just wanted to leave feedback on controller experience.
Overall good. The minigames are generally fun and it is verry interesting to see, how different choices effect the game overall. One problem comes from how difficulty is handled. The game over all is verry easy, which is not a problem as it is heavily focused in its story. The problem comes with one specific lock that can be picked since one only has two attempts at this, it is rather difficult and there is no easy way to reset it without what I would consider cheesing (one can have infinite attempts by quitting the game after the first attempt, however this hardly seems intentional as the same is not possible after the second attempt).
The biggest problem is that the game gets stale verry quickly. Not to say trying out different solutions is no fun, but the problem lies in having to do certain activities over and over again that add little to the experience. Putting tables at the right position is fun at first, however after the fifth time it can get very tiering.
Over all a different save system would likely make the game more interesting and if possible some way to skip certain activities on subsequent playthroughs might be helpful.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music and art
The music is simply grate throughout the entire experience. It conveys the tone quite nicely and is always fittingly implemented.
The art style of the characters looks beautiful and is fitting to their implied personalities. The pixel art also fits verry well and one can see that great care went into creating it.
It can be annoying, when one interacts with an object and Kat points out that an item might be useful instead of immediately using said item.
There are a few logical flaws that have jet to be addressed in the narrative, such as how the school is effected by a ritual that has not jet begun. (For example the drawings on the bord in the theater club room change depending on the method of entry). However it is also to be noted, that these effects might simply be meant to add to the mystery. (This does not mean they should remain unaddressed).
The design of whatever speaks to Kat in the intro sequence is somewhat ugly. (I much prefer the little creatures with red eyes or the “glitch” scare encountered at the beginning of the spiral segment in the mase).
The atmosphere in the game is fantastic. Everything has a certain earie touch to it and there is an inherent unease to all situations. This also means that all the scares seem like a consequence of the setting and circumstance, making them more effective.
All scares have been effective and it is verry admirable how no jump scares or other cheap techniques had to be used.
The only negative aspect is, that many scares rely to much on shock value and lose their impact on subsequent playthroughs. This is a even bigger problem because of the high replay value of the game. The best scares in my opinion are a natural consequence of the players actions. One of my favorites is the board in the theater club calling you a liar if the key was stolen to enter. These scares have something personal about them and it makes them much more effective, even after multiple playthroughs.
While they were clearly not the focus of the story, the characters are all somewhat sympathetic and have a distinct personality. While said personality is mostly just hinted at, there is surprisingly some character development that could be expanded upon. For example the shift from pony tale girls disliking of Kat to a more opened mind or the realization of Kat that the ritual worked and her handling of the situation could both lead to really interesting arcs and by making players more invested in their survival would also help create more fear of losing said characters, thereby raising narrative tension.
Over all I quite enjoyed the mystery elements of the story. Overall the backgrounds of the ritual, Kats personal investment in it and the overall effects on her and the world around her are all quite well done. The being she gets captured by and what I would describe as its pocket dimension also tie said mystery into the horror elements of the story. Exploring it further and possibly seeing the characters interact with each other inside it would greatly add to the story. The best way to develop the mystery in my opinion would be to give some mor information about the world in general and Kats background, while leaving the details unknown to keep the game interesting.
With the pocket dimension and its effect on Kat one could even have an unreliable narrator, giving only limited hints at whether information given about her past has been altered and how much the players can trust their verry perception of this games world.
The Plot is phenomenal. Especially the different ways one can go through it are all interesting and make multiple playthroughs verry rewarding. I will split the story into two parts: Pre-ritual and post-ritual.
Pre-ritual is certainly the strongpoint of the game. Here most tasks can be approached in different ways and events impacts each other in a meaningful way. This makes even mundane things such as getting hair or replacing a curtain fun and rewarding.
Post-ritual is fun the first time one goes through it all. However on later playthroughs, when most scares start losing their shock value, the lack of options to approach the situations makes this part more of a glorified walking simulator than the engaging puzzle with meaningful decisions it could have been. However there certainly is a lot of potential here. One common pitfall to avoid is needlessly raising the scale and for example bringing up some great conspiracy or having Kat take down an evil god to save the world would make the story generic and uninteresting. Instead the time in the pocket dimension should be expanded upon to flesh out both the characters and the mystery. Now about the ending: I think a lack of multiple endings might serve the story verry well, as it could help facilitate a general theme of the futility of fighting against the unnatural and unknown, thereby giving a lasting impact to the game. This is not to say there should be no decisions or different ways to approach said ending. Quite the opposite in fact. While there should be only one ending in my opinion, giving the player multiple different ways and even hope that they have finally found a way to get out unharmed, only to then rip it away by facing them with the reality that there is no escape would make the experience truly impactful and make for a grate story over all.
Over all the game has massive potential. If done right it could have fascinating and difficult decisions, themes of a loss of control over the unnatural and an intricate mystery that all together make for a truly impactful experience. Although this review might come fairly late, I still wish the best of luck to both the team and project. I truly hope it can fulfill its true potential.
Muy buen juego, te pone en el ambiente del personaje y si lo juegas a la hora adecuada sin duda hace que enciendas la TV y pongas un canal de niños de fondo para no tener miedo. 5/5 van por buen camino. <3
